Do I have what it takes to DIY a ducted system?
How to install air conditioning yourself?
Ducted air conditioning works by funnelling cool air from a central unit (usually installed in your roof) through a series of ducts to every room in your home. The circulation of air is usually zoned, allowing you to control airflow & temperature. Having zones for individual rooms, (which switch on and off) reduces the running cost and allows you to have a comfortable home.
Manual Labour
As you are DIYing the air con install yourself you will be doing the following.
Cutting and installing air diffusers in each room
Connecting flexible duct work and taping
Installing air diffusers and connecting motorised “air dampers”
Mounting return air vent intake in ceiling
Positioning and installation of Outdoor Unit
Preparing the installation site, putting down concrete slabs for outdoor unit to sit on. Drilling slabs to fix outdoor unit. Running (but not connecting) refrigerant pipework from outdoor unit to fan coil unit. Entering your ceiling space laying duct, lifting the main unit into your ceiling and fixing it in place. (you’ll need a friend to help you lift it onto the roof).
